 Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation, [se'lenakinta'nija'peres]; April 16, 1971-March 31, 1995) is also known as Selena, is a famous American Tejano singer. Selena was known as the "Queen Tejano music", her contributions to music and fashion have made her one of the most famous Mexican-American entertainers of all time. Billboard magazine placed her at third in the year 2020, in their "Greatest Latino Artists of All Time", which was built on Latin music and Latin albums. For her choice of clothing media outlets dubbed her the Tejano Madonna. Her choices in clothing have brought her the title "Tejano Madonna" from media outlets. Quintanilla, Suzette Quintanilla. In the 1980s, she was regularly criticized for singing Tejano music which was a genre of music that was predominantly male. Additionally, she was refused the opportunity to perform at Texas venues. After winning the Tejano Music Award in 1987 for Female Vocalist, she began to gain notoriety. She signed with EMI Latin in 1989. Her debut album was self-titled and released the following year. Her brother became her principal music producer and songwriter. Entre a Mi Mundo (1992) peaked at number 1 in the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums Chart for eight consecutive months. The album was praised by critics of music as the "breakthrough" album of her career. One of the singles, "Como la Flor" was a smash and was her most-loved song. Live! Live! Amor Prohibido became one the most popular Latin albums in the United States in 1994. It was critically acclaimed as the first Tejano music album to be commercially viable, and it quickly became one the most loved Latin subgenres of Latin music of the time.
